Exciting news to share!
The wedding of Katie and Colman that I photographed last September is now being featured as a Real Wedding on MARTHA STEWART WEDDINGS!! |

Katie and Colman are a couple very near and dear to my heart. I photographed Katie's sister Liz's wedding to John a few years ago, photographed another wedding of friends of theirs in Philadelphia the year before last, and then had the honor of photographing this wedding last year!
|

A VERY special thanks to my second photographer Scott and our very patient and attentive assistant Dianna!
What a great time we had! Can't wait for the next one! :)
|

I will be posting more images and information from Katie and Colman's wedding later. Until then, enjoy the feature on Martha Stewart Weddings and take a peek at .....

| exciting news from one of my brides! |
 |
|
|

Many of you will remember the wedding of Jen & Gabe...it was full of fabulous red/white details...stripes, lobsters, etc... It's been featured on numerous wedding blogs and published in the Spring 2008 national edition of The Knot
To give you a little background, here is the original blog post about the wedding: |

jen + gabe 07.07.07 stockton springs, me
On July 5th of last year I received an email from a bride in Florida stating that she had just gotten engaged the day before and wanted to know if I was available to photograph her destination wedding at The Retreat at French's Point on 07.07.07. I emailed her back that I was indeed available and that I'd be happy to discuss her wedding plans with her in more detail. Well, I'm not sure she even read anything past the "I'm available" part....within just a couple of days I received her signed contract in the mail!
Apparently Jen had already researched plans for her wedding and was just waiting for Gabe to pop the question before she contacted me! Love her! Looked for what she wanted for her wedding, found it and went after it....a decision maker extraordinaire! I knew from the very beginning we'd get along great!
If ever there was a wedding that was meant for me to shoot and for me to shoot it this was it. It had all the elements that I love in a wedding....great details, fun special touches and a REALLY F-U-N crowd (wow! I've never seen so much energy dancing and singing to " Don't Stop Believin' "!!). It also had the very special feel that I find is quite strong in every destination wedding I shoot...the atmosphere was casual and relaxed with a focus on the relationships between friends and family. Basically, it was a group of people just happy to be together to celebrate a very special event. Yep...my favorite kind.
And to top it all off, the icing on the cake for me....Jen was once Cinderella at Walt Disney World!! For those of you that know me I'm sure you know I practically squealed with delight when I discovered this!! I mean c'mon....I SHOT CINDERELLA'S WEDDING!! Almost too much for a Disney nut like me to handle!!
Okay...enough jabbering from me...here's a link to the highlights slideshow of Jen and Gabe's wedding and a collage of some of the detail shots of the day (check out the shoes that Jen wore...aren't they fantastic!?) |

Jen and I have kept in touch since the wedding...emails, phone calls and frequent plans to try to meet up during one of my trips to Orlando (still waiting for that to actually work out!). So, I wasn't surprised to see an email in my inbox one afternoon. But I was DEFINITELY blown away by what it said!
You see, Jen is one of the ten finalists on THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR! Ever since that initial email from Jen and the correspondence and phone calls back and forth with the producers of the Next Food Network Star (they are using wedding photo(s) and needed a signed release from me) I have been dying to tell everyone the exciting news! Now that the press release is out and it's being reported (Orlando Sentinel) I can finally share Jen's fantastic accomplishment. |

The new series kicks off Sunday, June 7, 2009 at 9 p.m.with the finalists catering the Food Network’s “Sweet 16” party with network talent and media there to judge.
I'm so happy/proud/excited for you Jen! I can't wait to watch and cheer you on! (and yes....it's KILLING me to not know anything. I honestly don't know how the contestants can keep the secrets so well!)

| playing catch up |
 |
|
|

In my effort to become a better blogger, I have determined that I (and Jo!) need to do two things (well, probably more than two but these are the biggies for right now!):
ONE: We need to blog about things as soon as they happen.
TWO: We need to play catch up on a LOT of things that I let slip by.
This means that while we do try to get caught up you are going to see Jo and I skip around a bit. One post may be about a recent session, the next might be about a wedding that was published ... well, last summer or so!
I realize that this may be a tad bit confusing to follow but I don't think many of you will mind. After all, that's the beauty and enormous value of photographs.....whether they were taken yesterday or 8 months ago, they are still relevant and provide a story to be told for generations to come.

In September of 2006 I had the pleasure of photographing Eliza and Chris's wedding in Nantucket. It was fabulous in so so many ways. The families and friends were wonderful and loads of fun, the location was breathtaking and the details (thanks to the incredibly talented Kate Parker) were incredible...REALLY incredible! All in all, it was simply a joy to photograph this couple and their celebratory events!
I never did get around to blogging about the wedding back then but thought I should now (better late than never!) ...especially since this wedding was recently featured in not one but TWO publications. The rehearsal dinner was featured in the Fall issue of Elegant Bride and the wedding itself was featured in the latest issue of The Knot - Boston
For an even more in depth peek into their wedding day, please be sure to check out Eliza & Chris's slideshow.

Just a few days after Eliza and Chris's Nantucket wedding I received an email from Brett and Miles. Miles is Eliza's brother and was a groomsman in the wedding and Brett was a bridesmaid and Miles' fiancee at that time. They wanted to know if I was available and willing to travel to Alabama the following spring for their wedding! Fortunately I was available so in April of 2007 I traveled down to Fairhope, Alabama to photograph their rehearsal dinner and wedding day!
It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces once again and, just like my first experience with this group, it was all fabulous!
To view more images from the rehearsal and wedding, here is Brett and Miles' slideshow . Be sure to pay close attention to the details and the tent. The lighting and decor were stunning!
Miles and Brett's wedding was also featured in a magazine...the June 2008 issue of Mobile Bay Monthly. |

| why have a destination wedding? |
 |
|
|

Oh, there are SO many great reasons to have a destination wedding! I could blabber on and on about why I think they are a fantastic way to celebrate a marriage with friends and family and why I love documenting them so much. I could do that....but instead I'm going to 'lift' the editor's letter from the latest issue of Destination Weddings & Honeymoons magazine.
The editor, Susan Moynihan, listed her 10 top reasons why every bride to be should consider a destination wedding.
Here is what she wrote:
1. IT'S EASY ON THE BUDGET
Destination weddings are a great way to cut costs. The bulk of savings comes from a smaller guest list and less decor - when you're in a beautiful place, you can keep things simple to show it off.
2. YOUR LOCALE SETS THE TONE
With a wedding away, you have a built-in theme: your destination. Use it to inspire everything from your color scheme to the reception cuisine.
3. YOU GET MORE QUALITY TIME WITH GUESTS
Guest lists tend to be smaller for weddings away. Having fewer attendees means you get to spend more quality time with each of them - a bonus for everyone.
4. GUESTS ENJOY A DISCOUNTED VACATION
Arranging for group rates on hotel rooms and airfare will help your guests get a vacation for less than they'd pay on their own. Who doesn't love that idea?
5. EVERYONE STAYS TOGETHER
With a destination affair, all of your guests stay in the same place, making it easier to arrange gatherings and transportation for all of your wedding events.
6. PLENTY OF PEOPLE ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP
Most resorts have onsite planners who can handle everything from the paperwork to the DJ, at no extra cost. Independent coordinators are great for more elaborate events and can find vendors, make arrangements at mulitple venues and even help assemble welcome bags.
7. EVERYONE GETS TO HAVE FUN
You don't have to worry about people having a blast at a wedding away - just being in the location will do it. Between events, you and your guests can explore the area, hit the spa, set up the outings through the desk staff or just hang out by the pool.
8. YOU GET A PREVIEW OF YOUR HONEYMOON
Whether you're staying in your locale for the official honeymoon or using your trip as a mini-moon with a big trip later on, destination weddings give you the best of both worlds. All that romantic ambience just reinforces why you're marrying in the first place.
9. YOU'RE FORCED TO RELAX
There's something that happens when you go on a trip - in unfamiliar surroundings, it's easier to cede control and just take things as they come. What a relief for stressed-out brides!
10. YOU MAKE UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES
Taking your loved ones on a multiday adventure guarantees many more memories than a one-day event.
A big thanks to Susan for writing such a great list!
For those of you planning or considering a destination wedding, I would highly recommend visiting the Destination Weddings & Honeymoons website
and picking up the latest copy of the magazine at your local bookstore. |

I am so excited to announce that a new resource book for wedding photographers "Professional Wedding Photography: Techniques & Images from Master Photographers" by Lou Jacobs, Jr. (Amherst Media) has hit the bookstores!
I am even more excited and very honored to be one of 10 photographers featured in this publication. To be included in a book with the likes of Jennifer Dery, Andrena Douglass , The Bebbs, Liana Lehman , George Weir, The Boutwells, Dane Sanders , John & Dalisa Cooper and Cliff Mautner.... is incredibly humbling!
But what REALLY threw me for a loop was seeing the cover for the first time today..... I had no idea that the cover would be one of MY images!!!!
Wow.
Very very cool! (even my kids think so...and they are very difficult to impress these days!)
Here is Amazon's review of the book:
Containing interviews with the top 10 wedding studio owners in the country, this indispensable reference offers a variety of opinions on everything from art and business philosophies to scheduling, handling retainers, writing contracts, and executing effective marketing plans. More than 15 images from each pro demonstrate classic and cutting-edge techniques -- as well as each photographer's signature wedding portrait style -- and are accompanied by details on recreating the scene. Additional tips on inspiring expressions and moods, modulating lighting, and adjusting composition while keeping clients relaxed during this emotionally-charged event are also included.
Many thanks to author Lou Jacobs, Jr. for including me in this book (as well as including me in another book he wrote Professional Children's Portrait Photography - Techniques and Images from Master Photographers ) and to Kristin and Ken, the wonderful couple on the cover!
